Salcombe and District Sea Anglers Association has been in existence for over sixty years and currently has about seventy members.
The club is mainly of interest to owners of small boats which is reflected by restricting the areas fished to between the Skerries Bell Buoy and Burgh Island and not exceeding five miles offshore. This gives boats of all shapes and sizes a level playing field.
Monthly competitions for cups and cash prizes are held throughout the year. There is something for everybody, with locals, visitors, juniors, ladies and shore anglers all being recognised.
Over the years, club members have held numerous British Isles and South West of England records.
The association is affiliated to the South West Federation of Sea Anglers and actively pursues conservation measures by refusing to accept fish of under 50 per cent of specimen weights.
In addition to angling, the club has a social section with a couple of dinners each year, monthly quizzes in the winter and summer boat trips on the Tamar or Dart.
An annual boat and a winter shore competition is fished against the Kingsbridge Club and a festival with special prizes is held throughout August and September.
The club will hold a special family day this summer to encourage junior anglers and they also hope to hold some tuition evenings in the winter months.
Annual subscription is only £10 for all categories except juniors (under 16 on Jan 1) who have to be registered with the club, but are free of charge.
Stop press: The club will be holding a special junior day on Sunday 27 July, with a top prize of £50 in vouchers for the winner. Fishing will commence at 9am and finish at 3pm under club rules. Weigh-in at the Kings Arms at 5pm. No junior can win more than two prizes.
